We would love any old "farmer" style clothes to go with our "Down on the Farm" theme in our dramatic play center. This could include straw hats, flannel shirts, and overalls. Our next theme will begin the Friday after spring break, 4/17, and will be "Spring is Here." If you have any clothing or items to represent this theme (umbrellas, spring jackets, shovel and pail, gardening tools, etc.) we would love it!

Lucky Leprechauns
Last week a leprechaun played many pranks on our kindergarten classroom. We made traps in hopes of catching him, but somehow he escaped with everything except his hat! He did leave us a nice note, a gold treasure (Rollos candy), and bubbles to play with outside. However, before leaving us presents, he moved all clips to red, turned all our alphafriends and station cards upside down, and flipped our chairs. What a prankster ~ maybe we'll catch him next year!
It's Been Awhile!
I'm sorry I haven't blogged in awhile. We've been fighting strep in my family for 6 weeks now, and it's been a little crazy. Please forgive me and I hope to get back on track with blogging:)

Monday, March 2nd is Dr. Seuss's birthday. We will honor and celebrate this day by reading Green Eggs and Ham. We will then follow directions on how to make Green Eggs and Ham and taste our creation. The students will then graph whether or not they liked Green Eggs and Ham. I do like Green Eggs and Ham, I do like them Sam I Am!!

Happy Valentine's Day
The students did many fun Valentine's activities today. The kids began their day decorating Valentine's bags. Then, they sorted conversation hearts by color and graphed them to compare which color had the most and least. They also wrote love letters and created Valentine cards. During centers, they each delivered their Valentines. We had a full and exciting day. Happy Valentine's day to you all and thanks for sharing your wonderful children with us! We love them!
Two Big Thumbs Up!
Please commend your children for excellent behavior while there was a guest teacher on Monday and Tuesday. The students earned many class husky bucks and lots of compliments from Mrs. Maratta. I am so proud of their responsible and respectful behavior! Give yourselves a round of applause, pat on the back and two big thumbs up:)

Kindergarten Conference
Fun on the field trip
The children had a great time on our community helpers field trip. We began the day at the firehouse and then went to Giant. When we returned to school we learned about proper dental hygiene from Nurse Nava. At the end of the day, Mr. Mike talked to the class about the tools needed to be a navy fighter pilot.

Community Helpers Field Trip
Friday, February 6th will be our community helpers field trip. We are going to visit Solomons Firehouse and Giant Food. At the firehouse, some things we will learn are the tools firefighters use and what to do in a fire. Giant Food is allowing us to check out food items, unload boxes that arrive on the trucks, and frost a cupcake in the bakery. When we arrive back to school, we will have two guest speakers ~ a navy jet pilot and a dentist. Field trip permission slips and money are due by Wednesday, February 4th.

On Thursday, February 5th is our 100th day of school! We will have 100th day rotations amongst the different kindergarten classrooms to celebrate. In Mrs. Patton's classroom, we will create 100th day squiggles. In Mrs. Long's class, the students will make 100th day headbands. In Ms. Fahmy's class, students will make 100 pattern fruitloop necklaces. And in Mrs. Tabor's class, students will create a 100 peice snack.
We will not have our normal math and literacy homework this week. Instead, children will be working on two projects. The first project is the 100th day collection. Students are to collect 100 items in a ziploc sized bag to share with the class on the 100th day (Thursday, February 5th.) They may also choose to place 100 objects, such as stickers, on a piece of 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of paper. The second project is our community helpers project. Students are to create a poster of what they want to be when they grow up. On the poster, students must include at least three tools they will use in this profession. This project is due on Monday, February 9th.
